YouTube Resolves Widespread Blank Feed and Missing Thumbnails Bug Across Android and iOS
YouTube has officially fixed a persistent mobile bug that was leaving users staring at gray placeholder boxes, black gaps, and missing video thumbnails across their feeds.
What Caused the Feed Issues?
The glitch, which surfaced over the weekend, severely impacted the YouTube app’s primary browsing interfaces on both Android and iOS devices:
-
Missing Thumbnails & Gaps: Video preview thumbnails, YouTube Shorts entries, and community post cards failed to render, leaving behind large black or gray gaps.
-
Impacted Areas: The issue directly affected the Home, Subscriptions, and User Profile feeds.
-
Working UI Elements: While feed contents were obscured, the top search bar, main player framework, and bottom navigation tabs remained fully operational.
How to Fix It on Your Device
YouTube confirmed that server-side adjustments and app updates have been rolled out to fix the rendering problem.
If your feeds still appear broken or show missing thumbnails:
-
Force Close the App: Open your phone’s multitasking/recent apps view, swipe the YouTube app away completely, and reopen it.
-
Update YouTube: Check the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to confirm you are running the latest version of the app.
