🍎💳 Apple Pay Finally Launches in India — With Axis Bank
After years of waiting, Apple Pay has officially launched in India, marking Apple’s entry into one of the world’s biggest digital payments markets.
🏦 Axis Bank is the first Indian banking partner, with the initial rollout supporting eligible Visa and Mastercard credit cards.
Here’s what users can do:
🔹 Add eligible Axis Bank cards to Apple Wallet
🔹 Pay at supported contactless terminals using iPhone, Apple Watch or iPad
🔹 Make payments in stores, apps and online
🔹 Authenticate transactions using Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode
⚠️ RuPay cards are not supported at launch, and Apple Pay acceptance depends on merchants and payment terminals being enabled for the service.
📱 How is this different from UPI?
India’s digital payments ecosystem is dominated by UPI, which enables direct bank-to-bank payments. Apple Pay, on the other hand, is initially a card-based payment service.
Apple has also been in discussions with HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, but they have not joined the launch yet.
🇮🇳 Apple Pay has finally entered the Indian payments market — but its initial rollout is limited compared with the scale of UPI.
