🤖 OpenAI Is Turning ChatGPT Into More Than Just a Chatbot
OpenAI’s latest updates are pushing ChatGPT toward becoming a platform where users can discover, interact with, and use third-party apps directly inside the conversation.
At its DevDay event, OpenAI introduced several changes that could reshape how people interact with apps:
🔹 App-like experiences inside ChatGPT
Developers can build interactive experiences with dedicated sidebar homes, panels, and file viewers instead of relying only on traditional chat interactions.
🔹 Better app discovery
OpenAI is improving how apps are surfaced and recommended, making it easier for users to find relevant tools while using ChatGPT.
🔹 “Sign in with ChatGPT”
Developers can allow users to authenticate with their ChatGPT account. The initiative launched with 16 partners.
🔹 ChatGPT Marketplace
OpenAI’s new marketplace launched with 30+ partners, giving users a central place to discover apps and integrations.
🔹 Automations
OpenAI is also adding support for event-driven automations, allowing connected apps to trigger workflows rather than simply responding to prompts.
📱 Why this matters
Traditionally, users open an app store, search for an app, install it, and then use it separately.
OpenAI’s approach moves more of that experience inside ChatGPT itself — where the AI can become the interface through which users discover and interact with different services.
The bigger shift may be from “Which app should I open?” to “What do I want to accomplish?”
And ChatGPT could increasingly handle the rest.
