🤖📄 OpenAI Takes on Microsoft With Its Own AI-Powered Office Suite

OpenAI is moving deeper into workplace software with a set of new ChatGPT features that look increasingly similar to the tools people use every day in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

The biggest additions include:

🔹 Space — A shared workspace where teams can collaborate with ChatGPT and OpenAI’s Dots AI agents. Files and pages can live together, while agents can carry out tasks based on instructions.

🔹 Pages — A new document editor designed for both humans and AI agents. Users can write, research, create charts, generate images, and visualize information in one place.

🔹 Collaborative Slides — OpenAI’s answer to presentation software. Users can describe what they want in ChatGPT, generate slides, and then collaborate with colleagues and AI agents to edit and comment on them.

💡 The bigger shift

Instead of simply adding AI features to existing office applications, OpenAI appears to be building the AI workspace itself around ChatGPT.

That puts it increasingly closer to Microsoft’s territory — while Microsoft is simultaneously expanding Copilot into a broader AI-powered workplace platform.

The battle is no longer just about who has the best AI chatbot.

It’s increasingly about who becomes the place where people actually do their work.
